Does anyone have a pic of a shifter assembly without a Knob on it. My car came with an aftermarket t handle that just falls off. I would like to get an original (style) knob, but would like to know if something is broken before I buy one.
Handle is probably cross-threaded and pooped out. I've gone through two in three years, but I'm an eccentric shifting monster. The rod usually lasts longer than the knob.
Go to any auto parts store that sells Hurst or other shifter knobs or balls (Autozone, Orielly, Advanced Auto, etc).
Find shifter knob you like, tell clerk you want to make sure it fits onto your shifter rod. Go out into parking lot and try it out!! If it screws in, buy it. If not, try another!
Don't drop a dime on that kind of stuff without checking it out first. Most stores have no problem with that method. If it turns out its the rod that has bad threads, just look for the rod at stores or on Ebay, not the entire shifter assembly.

I have new information that suggests I have an original t-shifter but is broken. Is the top of the shaft supposed to have threads on it?? If so I have bigger problems.
Its a th400 I believe. It does have the sport shift (or whatever it is called) That you can push the lever to the right and manually shift the car. And right know there is a two piect black and chrome handle that falls apart.
The "T" handle slips over the top of the shaft and if you look underneath the black plastic you will see a tiny inset bolt with allen key slot that you need to tighten down to make it stay in place. The black plastic cap is held on with a clip but if cracked or broken underneath will make it flop off.If the threaded insert is buggered it (chrome handle) will twist/spin around Is this the "T" you speak of? Yes that is the handle I have, but speaking with some others I have the HT shifter which has the round wood knob on it. It looks lik my shaft (keep it clean everyone):-) has the two slots or retaining clips, so now I need to find a shifter knob.
