Yes, it is MUCH better. I used some high gloss rustoleum on some parts and they have already faded and started to chip after 5 years. Subframe and floor pans still look GREAT covered in POR15.
You can get a spray can of Zero Rust online, too that's as good as POR15, cheaper and easier to apply. I have some of it on my car, too and it still looks great.
POR 15 encapsulates any rust, and prevents oxygen from getting to it to further promote the process. POR15 is almost as tough as metal, won't chip even if bent etc... it's got to be one of the best products on the market for a variety of uses.
If you do decide to use POR15 make sure you cover up your skin. This stuff does not come off very easy at all if you get it on you. Safety glasses are also a good idea when applying. Other than that, excellent product as said.
POR 15 is like another layer of steel over your rusty parts. Be sure to degrease first with POR Marine Clean, then use POR Metal Ready etcher so the POR 15 adheres to non-rusted areas. Brush on 3 coats of POR 15 and floors should be solid as a rock.
The only thing I was a little disappointed about por15 was how easily brake fluid ate it up. Should be good for floor pans and trunk floors. Anything exposed to UVs(sunlight) need to be top coated with some kind of paint.
Firebob, did you put POR chassiscoat on top of the POR15? I did on the frame (left the undercarriage POR15 only)so I hope that will not be an issue. Haven't even got the brakelines IN the car yet so no experience on the chassis coat.
Ok POR15 is a good product but you might try a product called Rust Bullet it works better in the salt spray tests they sell it everywhere Google it to find it near you and NO I dont work for or get anything for this just experience.
