What battery did pontiac orginaly use in their Firebirds? I need a new battery and since I've tried to keep things as orginal as possible it would be nice to get a battery as close to the orginal as possible too. As least the same brand.

In '68 they used Delco 44, 53 or 61 amp hr batteries depending on the application. Here's the R59 61 amp hr repro that is sold by many vendors:

I just put my R59 in- my engine is all stock except for 10:1 compression. no problems- starts right up nicely. This battery does have less cold cranking amps than a top of the line new battery, but you don't need the extra amps unless you have a highly modified engine or unless something is wrong, like your timing.

Don't know. Mine is almost two years old and so far so good. But time will tell. I put a charger on it regularly during the winter downtime. You will have to buy acid at the local auto parts store to activate yours.

Any vendor you would recommend? I found 3-4 with google.
