68 powerglide - When I pulled the radiator I noticed that very little if any fliud came out of the lines from the tranny. I was thinking there should be more and the radiator itself should hold some. When moving the radiator around to paint it didn't leak fluid. This transmision does slip once in awhile when warm and the fluid is dark but doesn't smell burnt. I was going to pull the lines and blow them out but couldn't get them off. Any Ideas?
Blow out the radiator itself. It should spray out some fluid. I usually get very little fluid out of them when disconnecting.
Once you are ready to start the car, you can check flow from the transmission output line. I think it's the lower one, but to be safe, lead hoses from both lines to a bucket, start the car and run for 20seconds. You should have about a quart of fluid in the bucket. Refill with fresh fluid. You can check radiator flow in a similar manner by hooking up the feed line, and fashion an output line/hose from the radiator to the bucket.
I believe the upper line coming out of the trans is the outlet. The lower is where the fluid flows back into the trans and pan....atleast on a TH350 and a TH400 I KNOW it is....made the mistake of firing the motor once with the top line disconnected.
