I hear in conversation the phrase "one-off restoration". What does that actually mean. I can't find much on the internet. I assume from conversation it is body-off full disassembly?????
Is it unibody or unit body. I have heard conflicting on both of these terms.

when you state what I knew all along...no frame in our cars...it got me thinking....I went to alot of car dirt racing years ago and often saw old Camaros out there...then I realized that they only allow racing with 'frame' cars!? hmmm....how did this work...?
Jim, "typically" One off, is used in reference to a custom, "one of a kind" = One off. And then restoration is another meaning all together as you know... so "typically" the two would be contradictory terms, and you would not uses them in the same reference.
So perhaps it would be used to describe a vehicle that is a one of a kind custom done say in the 60's such as a Big Daddy Kustom, that has been restored to the way Big Daddy customized it in the day?
Where did you hear the terms used together? I've heard many miss used phrases from the announcers of the Barret Jackson Auctions... they at times kind of make things up on the fly! Lol...
Brett, I may have incorrectly put one-off and restoration together based on the discussion. I've heard one-off at least three times lately and in resoration discussions. Once by an auto repair shop owner discussing a friend's restoration. From what you said I looked further and found references to one-of-a-kind, unique, prototype, experimental, etc. along with one-off.
David mentioned this morning in Finally, a '69 Bird that was OVERHAULED! that the term was just used on a TV show. I guess new words and phrases get invented all the time and once they are used enough times they may become part of the language.
Maybe a one-off means the first time that it's been restored. 2-off would be the second, and 3-off would be the third and so on. After all, the cars are at the age where they could be in second and third restos.
So that should make mine a 2 and a half off resto...? once 'restored' before plus modified , and then I did a running reso...modifed more...
My daughter sent me this definition which she found with an internet search: If only one copy of a product is required, this type of production is described as "one-off".
Then I have found some uses of the term "one-off" on the internet, as it applies to Pontiacs. In each it appears to be used to discuss a product (in these cases a Pontiac) that is one-of-a-kind prototype, experimental, factory showcar, etc.
