I just found out last week..Classic Industries is coming out with their own 1969 stack gauge sets in the middle of Feb. Has any one heard what their going to be asking for a set?
http://FirstGenFirebird.org/show/closeup.mv?CarID=571 If i don't get this car back on the road soon i'm gonna go postal! On a quest for FGF knowledge 1968 Pontiac Firebird Convertible 1969 Oldsmobile Cutlass "S" Convertible *Sold*
The ones that were being sold on ebay were not the best reproductions they ran off wires..Classic Industries.I heard are going to be just like the stock ones...
The bottoms going to be falling out on 1969 trans am original parts..The bigger companys are finding out theres a demand for the parts and now the original parts are going to be losing value..If you dont believe me check out ebay people are selling all there parts before the reproduction come out at the end of Feb.
Personally, I think that's a "good" thing! That will mean that all the people out there wanting to do "clones" for personal reasons to keep or what ever their motives (hopefully all with the best intentions to disclose as a clone!) if for resale.
They now can just go but repro parts and leave the True Original parts for True Original TA's that may be sitting waiting for that long awaited resto!
I have a friend up here that in the 70's/80's bought, fixed and sold nothing but first gem Firebirds and Camaro's and has an incredible stock pile of original parts (no, nothing is for sale) and he has an original TA and a highly optioned HO car that happens to be one of those original TA's waiting for a resto!
So I say bring it on, let everyone but the repro parts and leave the rear TA parts for the "Real" TA cars out there.
As with any high dollar transaction and the recent heightened awareness of rare parts and cars, I hope everyone will thoroughly check out and document any rare cars or parts they intend on buying. Never buy sight unseen. And now with the repro parts... please make sure you know what you’re getting and make sure you know who you’re getting it from! I know a guy locally who was notorious for switching parts and many unscrupulous practices. This is right up his alley!
I think it will be a good thing in the long run as the real parts will alwyas be worth what people are willing to pay for the real deal, and all the rest can buy repo parts at a resonable price. The best of both worlds!
wherever there`s money to be made ,they will make parts for.... just feel sorry for the last guy to buy a $10,000 hood two months before some "cheaper" hood comes along...of course, cheaper may mean $4000...? still a difference....that could buy a few Shiners...
what your going to see in the next couple months is people put up their original parts and trying to get top dollar because the know when the oem reproduction come out..The price of the originals will be cut in half or more..Who will pay $10,000+ for a hood or $3,000+ for gauges.. when you can get a oem reproduction parts for 1/10 that price...I heard there coming out with a steel 1969 t/a hood in the $750 range and gauges in the $550 range. The gauges are coming out at the end of Feb.
What will that do to the price of the repro fiberglass hoods? The steel framed one goes for about $750 doesn't it? Parts Place better start moving them fast.
The bottom is not falling out on 69 T/A PARTS I am selling my stuff so i can buy more parts for my dragster and the prices are so high now that i can't justify keeping the orig. parts on my 400 convert. I will get some repro. stuff to replace it. The only talk of reproducing the T/A hood in steel is by me so far. I could do it and yes i want to be paid up front. Because i know that if i make them it will be a one run deal and then someone else will start making them to get in on the action and cut my price in half and i will be out. Let the guys that want the orig. stuff pay big bucks if they want. it is their money and they want to spend it. if you cannot afford the high prices then you get repro. stuff or find a new passion.
I will hold my breath for the next set of repro. tach and gauges and see if they are as nice as mine.
That was just what I was thinking John. This would let more people do as they want with their cars and the higher priced original parts can go to those who need them and are willing to pay for the original parts! Nothing would change there in my opinion.
There are still the same number of original parts, and still only a Small, percentage of them for sale so the price should not be effected by reproduction parts much, if, at all?
If I were in your position, I think I'd do the same thing!
