Bjorn: New blood for calendar #2? Yeah that makes sense. I guess I would allow repeats if the picture is just plain awesome. Bjorn you'd really have to get THE shot for your car to be in again.
Maybe the best darn Delorean picture we can find for the cover? Kelly did some killer Photoshop work but I have mixed feelings about LARGE 'shop edits like that.
I think you now know why I was looking for some DIFFERENT shots. We have a whole season to look for
Sunrise/Sunset Fog Snow Just after a rain Smoke-shows Art shots - using side/rear-view mirrors etc - tight shots of badging, original stickers etc... Lifestyle - there's nothing wrong with a couple faces in the pic. A nice HALF pic would be awesome. - There's a HALF pic of a bunch of FGFs under the trees next to a curb - a high-res retake of that would be spectacular!
"If" you guys are going to go to the effort, then take a crapload of shots - digital "film" is free!

Sam Houston defeated Santa Ana and his Mexican Army ), thats the one you`re talking abut, but maybe someone HAS a hi res of it...we took several there, Andy usually uses hi res ,whereas I dont...but CAN do... our Corpus cruise is on tomorrow, maybe something there...?
I'm gonna eBay the last calendar I have with a reserve of $1,000 - any takers? :p
Bjorn - Remember, calendar #2 is not promised (at least by me.) Naturally I would LOVE to see some great HALF pictures. Now that you know more of the kind of things I (or the next editor) would be looking for, I bet there'll be some great pix!
I got a large envelope in the mail today, and rushed to see what it was... a statement from my 401k account. No calendar. And the 401k statement wasn't good news either. :p

Steve your cal went out yesterday. It's kinda hard to make multiple trips to the PO when I work daylight hours. Technically it wasn't supposed to go out until Saturday but I wanted to hook a brutha up.
Bjorn - if the calendars go on sale again, who knows? But I think the non-sale price ($19.99 each plus shipping) would discourage many potential buyers.
I would like to do a calendar for next year...and there is plenty of time to get great shots. I think club/group/cruise shots are a great idea. That H.A.L.F. lineup in Shiner, or the one on the waterfront, or the one in front of the winery...you get the idea. I guess H.A.L.F. will have to get a good spread!
It will be planned as a January-December calendar, so for a few overlap months you can enjoy both calendars!
Be mindful of objects in the background, such as towers, light poles, sign posts, power poles...they have a bad habit of jumping up behind cars while you snap the shot. Likewise, parking lot stripes, badly cracked or patched pavement, pedestrians and other distractions can take away from an otherwise professional image. License plates will be edited out.
Please don't take photos in front of your house or garage...I have seen cars on eBay with the street address in plain sight, the city in the seller profile...with web search software anyone could know where you live.
Minimum photo resolution is 1280 x 1024 for a full page. JPEG images only, please, quality 60 or higher. Anything smaller will be used on a multiple image page. Groups may wish to consider this, especially if all the members don't show up in one shot.
Email images to yellowbird@thefirstgensite.com, with the subject "2007 Calendar". Family-friendly images only, please! All photos should be in by September.
It's a lot of work, eh, Scott?

Smitty - no more excuses! You know that TV commercial where there's 2 guys talking in the back yard over a grill, and the one guy with the tongs is like "let's say that's your steak over there (as he drops it on the ground) and my steak right here (as he flips it over on the grill)" - ok, the words weren't quite that, but you get the picture. Next time you come over, don't be surprised if your steak has some extra organic seasoning on it (grass clippings, dirt, fertilizer, etc)! I'm tired of being nice!
Oh, and instead of serving you the cold beer, I'll give you one that's only been in the fridge for an hour. :p And no red wine will be served, you'll be getting white wine! hahaha
I'm just getting anxious, really should have paid you sooner. Hope the check clears!

Vikki, in case we dont get any good HALF shots this year (doubtful, but for arguments sake), could we use 3 or 4 small shots like the ones you described for one month? those good enough for that?
Yep, 800 x 600 are fine for the smaller shots. I can't imagine you not getting ANY good HALF shots this year...but you have a lot of good ones on file to use.

Yeah Vikki, 'tis a lot of work. To be honest, I wouldn't commit to a deadline if price is an issue. $24+ for one calendar is pricey and that's what it's gonna be. (After all the shipping baloney.)
By committing to a dealine you don't let yourself wait for the next sale... Make sure you get on Ophoto's e-mail list.
Ophoto.com (where I got mine) is the only flexible calendar vendor. The others that I looked at, like Shutterfly.com was ONE picture on a WHITE background. (You can Photoshop a collage to get around the "one picture problem", but that is more work for you.)
I figure if the pics are all in by September, and edited and ready for print, that leaves October and November to find a sale price...not as tight as what you had to deal with.

A second run is possible but the cost will go way up. One cal will be close to $25+ dollars. After the first cal per customer, the price will be around $23.00.
WTF is going on? Bill and Hansi, who BOTH ordered 5 calendars, haven't received them yet. Since their packages were big, I DOUBLE enveloped them and used lots and lots of tape.
Anybody who doesn't receive their calendars will get some sort of satisfaction.
But, sorry, I'm not gonna send out 5 at a time anymore. That is bad juju for some reason.
But remember, don't shoot the messenger. I'm not making any profit so if we start making me liable for the the "loss" then that'll take money away from Geoff. Replacement calendars are so expensive that Geoff won't get anything.
Maybe I'm putting the cart before the horse... We'll see.
I recieved my calander promptly. Really liked the way it turned out.
The only suggestion I would have for Vikki would be to see if some kind of captioning could be added to each page.
Thanks again for taking the time to do this Scott. Your work is much appreciated. I can only hope the 'missing' calanders are just stuck in the mail and arrive shortly.
Tim

Hey Scott. NO SWEAT POOP HAPPENS. Im gone during the week so if I dont get ahold of you right away dont think im ignoring you or any body else. This darn job gets in the way all the time. You have done a great service to this Forum. Thanks for all your hard work. Bill KCILC P.S. When I put slap here up side the head. I should have spell checked. SLAP HER UP SIDE THE HEAD. MY BAD
I would like a calendar. If you're planning on a new issue and putting in "before" shots, I have plenty of my pile of rust. But, I imagine that would be for a "hopefuls" calendar. Hey, a spinoff!!
Hey Scott call off the dogs. Must be some kinda record. From your place to mine 16 days. Darn PO. Hey but on the bright side they look awsome. Thanks everybody who particapated. Thanks again SCOTT!!!! GETSOME Bill
Scott ,sent you two pics that might not be prefect for a calendar , but some from "happenings" or "Lifestyle "...HALFs ice chest from this weekends cruise..., before and after...LOL
Vicki and/or Scott, Maybe you could run some kind of lottery for calender 2/3. It's really dissapointing to have your car booted and I'm not looking forward to it happening a second/third time. With all this advertising I'm sure it's going to get even tougher to make the cut on the next one. Wouldn't it be cool if you could get 11 solid cars and have all of us get to add our cars for the twelveth?
Great idea. The logistics would be a bit more complex, though. There are actually 13 photos in a calendar, as there is one on the cover. It would put the calendar into the $25 range as each one would be a one-off.

Assuming Vikki is the total Queen of Calendar #2, I'll just throw my simple opinions in:
1. It makes sense to not have repeated cars from calendar #1 in calendar #2. Therefore, Jim, your chances go up by default. Your car is ready, but I highly recommend retaking some high-res pics.
2. I did calendar #1 via a "Quality of Pic and Car Contest." Emphasis on the pic. Vikki may have a different agenda. She may want to feature the cars of Texas or something.
3. Having the twelfth month be "the best of the rest" in a kind of collage makes sense to me. It's her call. Also, the cover of the calendar could be a collage of the cars within. Commercial calendars usually have that collage on the back cover.
Who'd a thunk a calendar would get so many people smiling about their FGFs! :-) I don't even have mine up at work yet, probably because I know EVERY page by heart.
If we re-order AT LEAST 25 calendars, we get them for $13.99 each. Bear in mind that price does NOT reflect shipping, tax etc. (The first batch was $9.99 each.)
Scott/Vikki, yes I vote for no 'repeats' in next calendar...just so people wont get burned out on the same cars , plus new blood , new pics are great...more variations one thing I think we should think of...as there are a couple of these pics in the current one... a title , or explanation, would be nice...maybe owners name , car year, model etc...
like: Bjorn Sefeldts 69 convertible, Houston Tx or such?
and the "Pic taken at midnight May 31st in Norway " or "smoke em if you got em"
I think its nice to know whose they are...
and another photoshop suggestion possibly, when you take out the lic plate , could you stick a fgf bird decal there?
