I'm rebuilding my rear end and hopeing to save some money, putting in a good used posi carrier so i'm going to do it at home. Right now I'm pulling out the axils and in the book dose not say anything about a "C" clip in the rear. Do they just come out with a slap hammer or is there more to it?
I am trying to remember putting mine together, your situation would be the reverse. I'm pretty sure you just have to remove the 4 nut/bolt combos that hold the brake backing plates to the axles. There is a metal plate right behind the wheel stud section that keeps the axle in place.

You can use the old axles if they check out good. They need to be checked for straightness and the bearing surfaces need to be smooth and round. Most machine shops can check them for you.
