My turn signal switch has been destroyed, and the ignition lock removed. I'm trying to get the lock plate off so I can get access to them, but I'm not sure how to do it. I know the service manual shows using a "pusher" tool, but I don't happen to have access to the Pontiac Tool Chest. Anyone done this before and know a good way to get it off?

From memory I believe there is a snap ring around the shaft that holds the plate. If you push the plate in(spring loaded) you can see the ring and get a tool under it to take it out of the groove.
I see the snap ring, but the problem is the lock plate needs to be pushed into the column, to relieve the spring pressure on the plate and ring. I can kind of push it in by hand, but since I left my 3rd one in storage, I can't push it in and get at the snap ring.

Don't know a better way. Did mine by hand. Push down with one hand and use the other to take off the ring. I used an O-ring pick to get under the snap ring.
I did mine by hand also. I used a pair of vise grips as a handle to push and hold the plate and a pick to remove the snap ring. I was not able to get the lock cylinder out. The manual says to break off a casting piece to get to a push hole or somewhat, but I was not ready to break anything from my column unless I really needed to.
Well. I've been thinking about that one. I took my column in to have the lock cylinder done and there is no way he broke off a piece of the casting. So, you can do it!
