I received the following email a few days ago.

A message from Prodigy Customs and Pro-Touring.com

Spoilers are coming! By request, Prodigy Customs has completed R&D on popular 1969 Trans Am type spoilers for 67/68 Camaro's and Firebirds. This is the same type wing used on Project prodigy, but without all the flaws, LOL! We are having a special pre-sale for the first batch of spoilers over at GPSuperStore.com for dual Pro-Touring.com and GPSuperstore.com members.

Check it out at

http://gpsuperstore.com/forum/showthread.php?p=1435#post1435post1435

Also, be sure to let us know what GPs you may want to see for Christmas.

Thanks,
Frank, Lisa, Michael Serafine and Larry Callahan

I wonder. This may be a phishing attempt to see how many might be sold IF they went into production.

The after-market "69 spoiler for a 68" I have on my 68 barely passes as an acceptable fit. Maybe this one will be better.

Nash, I remember seeing a lot of talk about the quality of the 67-68 TA spoiler on the pro-touring website when they were building Prodigy. Prodigy customs did a LOT of work to make the spoiler acceptible for the quality of the car it was going on. They have done several different things with fiberglass over the last couple years.

I seriously doubt it's a phishing expedition. They seem to produce to damned good products.....including a bolt in kit to install an LS1 and T56 into first gen Camaros.

Drew, buy/build a 68, then buy the spoiler and do a test fit for us would ya? ;p

How's the fine tuning going on the 69? Hope it still puts a Big @$$ smile on your face every time you drive it! laugh

Brett!

It's not a phishing expedition. They plan to post pictures of the first pre-production prototype any day. The owner of Prodigy, Frank Serafine, posts on some other websites I frequent and he is generally accepted as a knowlegeable, helpful and down to business person. I believe they are going to use a different core material to avoid the sagging issue. However they make it, I'm sure it will be better than the piece currently offered. I wonder how my car would look with one and a TA hood?

I bought two 67/68 TA spoilers and neither were what I expected.

I got one from a well known firebird parts seller out of Florida, it was crap even after he assured me I would be impressed with it. It had a terrible finish on it which would have required serveral hours of prep to get ready for paint. And had the common bow in the middle they all seem to have. The ends were still shaped to fit 69 quarters and do not match up too good on 67-68's. It was made by some Firebird outfit out of Canada. I sold it for a major loss as the guy seemed unwilling to take it back.

The second one I bought was from The Parts Place. It had a very nice finish on it, it was really ready to paint when I got it. But it has the same shape and fit flaw of the first one.

Drew (all),

That is great news to hear that some serious minds took this issue to task.

It was a fairly simple task to be honest: Greg (Bronze Bird) and I did it in less than an hour one night while we loitered around my 68 rear end and its NEW "69 spoiler for a 68". It was obvious that the aftermarket spoiler I paid nearly 300 duckies for was:
1 - too long, by over one inch in overall length
2 - not re-enforced enough to handle the weight of the fiberglass in the middle. It bowed in the middle after just 4 weeks of use.
3 - Too high, the pillars are easily .40-.45 inches too long (high). The too-long pillars cause the infamous WING spoiler look. That is, the spoiler is floating above the rear end and does not come anywhere close to contact with the rear body of the 68.
4 - Too weak at the pillar hardpoints. The screws holding the pillars to the underside of the spoiler eventually crack through the topside of the spoiler as you use the trunk over and over. This ruins any paint jobs or body work done to clean that area up.

ALL four issues are unacceptable, but are the current truth on these spoilers. I wasted big bucks on this and sincerely wanted to hurt someone for my cash loss.
The response is always "we did our best".

Other than that......I just love that spoiler of mine! If a better one comes out, I'll buy it in a New York minute.
