I need to get a set of new hood springs for the bird. The old ones are a little weak. I see many differences in prices on ebay nos /new and gms. Anybody been through this? I'm just looking for advice where to purchase a decent set. I've seen them for 27.-60. for the pair is there a difference? thanks Ron H.

I bought a set of new, but I found out just as several others that the happiness is short lived,, it took mine about 6 mo to sag again... I`ve come up with a solutiion that several others have tried with great results...
its called the "Viagra hood" solution...lol
Find yourself a mid 80`s Volvo 240 (if yu dont find one in a junk yard you CAN buy them at a dlr ship, but lots more $$), I know the 86`s had them ,but several years thru mid 80`s Volvo 240`s had double hood springs...the inner ones are the ones you want...easy to take off, just brinmg a pair of pliers ,pull....they are body color of the Volvo ,so maybe spray them flat or semi gloss black before you install ,but these you can fish into the inside of your Pontiac hood springs ,you dont even need to take the old ones off,and they dont much show up...just a little 'hook' at the end,not noticeanble ,but works great ...mine have been on for 2 yrs now, not sagging yet....I told this trick on the fgf L list and have gotten many happy responses...

My hood is not fitting down far enough (you have to push it down at back with the heel of your hand) I thought that was springs but it stays up OK. I did notice that one of the hinges was cracked at the rivet, so i was thinking of ordering the new repop hinges and putting my old springs back on when they start to sag after 6 months...
List price for GM springs is $15.92 ea if you needed to know. Will take a few days for you to get'm though. Closest stocking warehouse to you is Martinsburg, WV.
I bought new hinges b/c mine were very worn ,so painter didnt want to re-install with the freshly painted hood "It can brake off and damage", so I bought new ,used the old springs ,then twwo three years later I was tired of tha saggy hood ,bought new springs "the best $35 I spent on the car"...I thought...but 6 mo later.."that was a wasted $35"....tried helpersprings as I was recommended by other FGF`er ,but didnt work ,until I found these Volvo 240 inner springs...!
