Andy, as I said in my pm to you, don't finish paying for the parts. If you & him have dealings & you trust him , then good luck. He is burning me & he is telling both of us we can have the same parts. Mine are paid for in the cost of the 68. I can't even get him to answer his phone or return calls after @$$loads of messages. Next time you talk to him tell him to send my title because if I have to make another 9 hour trip it isn't going to be a social call!!!!!!
he told me the price for the rear end but you have his 69. i wont buy it if he has promiesed to you though. as for the parts we have arranged im not sure what that means. as per we discussed the only thing we have together is the trunk pan which you asked to keep in the car till you got it home. then you wuold pull it and bring it to columbus the weekend of the pontiac rally. whenever that is? i called last night but ill call again in a bit as it seems you had alot of trouble last night with the house. sorry to hear your trip was so horrible!!

james, check on the left side of the axle about 4-6 inches from the pumpkin. there will be a break line retainer clip on the axle. using a wire brush, brush to the left side of the clip and you will see the 2 letter code you need to determine which axle it is and what ratio it came with stock. the code of the original axle that caleb has in his psition shows an open 2:56 to 1 ratio from a 68 bird i.e. your original rear end!!

Most likely the pinion bearings went. Those bearings have the most preload and need the most lubrication. Next in line are the carrier side bearings. Axles should be fine.

James, did you buy the car thru eBay? If the seller doesn't come up with the entire promised items you have recourse there. And if that doesn't scare him, threaten action from the states attorney general since it was on eBay. Small claims court is also a motivator. Some bozos need a fire lit under their ars!
Tom, the guy got kicked off of ebay before I got the car, which I didn't know at the time. At any rate the sale wasn't through ebay. I talked to his mom yesterday after finding the # online & he told her the title was sent the day before. I'll wait until Monday & see. Drew67 lives near him & is coming here next weekend, hopefully with my rear end. As for the rest of the deal with the seller, I guess I'll just call it a lesson learned. When they come that way, they're not soon forgotten! Small claims court, hmmmmm
