Just wondering what you guys did for front speakers. Since I dont have a console in my 69 I was thikning about getting a small box of some sort in a V shape with some 4x6 to put on the hump under the dash.
Gimme some ideas?? I dont want to cut the kick panels.....
Yeah , Q`s sound system is great!! Mine has cut kick panels from prev. owner, but Brett has a neat system, hidden stereo in glove box, speakers in trunk , turned forward...you might check his out.. brett@cisdirect.com Bjorn
I've followed along the same lines as Q, but went with a 2.5" exhaust into Flowmasters, and they dump before the rear end.
Then, on top of that, I put an Alpine head unit in the glove box, a Kenwood 280W 2/3/4 chnl amp and an Alpine 180W 2chnl amp in the trunk along the support brace (convertible) and an 8" Free air Kicker sub mounted there too partially using the area behind the seat where the Top Motor goes (filled with Polly Fiber fill) as a box. Two Infinity 6x9's (re-making the custom enclosures) firing forward into the area where the top folds (only open area into the cabin) Then I hav two Aura Bass Shakers under the front seats (aura.com) 25w per. And a high powered 10x4" in the stock dash speaker location, and soon to install the two 4x6" Infinity speakers in the kick panels in the stock speaker location with the stock speaker grills.
All in all.... theres a whole lotta shak'n going on! What you don't hear over the 455/hooker/Flowmaster combo, you feel in the bass shakers... so you at least know the tunes are rumbling while your cruising at 80... er.. ahh.. I mean 60... yeah... 60...
I have to update the pix on my web page... but you can get the idea of the start of the install. brettliukkonen.com and go to the firebird page.
Or maybe Bjorn will post the link to Chris Reynolds stereo install in his 69. Now that is nice!
It's all good... and loud! - Brett - 67 Drop Top 455!
No, I'm running it off of the deck, from one of the front speaker chanels. I'm planning on replacing it with a dual speaker plate that I will make with a set of infinity 4" speakers...
Eventually... this will take a while to get it set just right, or at least to where I'm happy with it, and will leave it alone! Lol...
Thanks all, yes, it should be an ok system for a vert when all is said and done. Oh, by the way, almost all of the components (sans the deck) were off of ebay, and so far, the whole system cost me under $300 total!
Someone makes a stereo two-way speaker for the center speaker location. I almsot bought one for my car. I wish I had written down the name. You don't have to make your own!
Yes, Custom Adio makes a plate, Kenwood, Pioneer, and Jenson all have plates available. And or I may get the base plate to use with my own speakers. I just want better speakers than they offer is all...
Rick's 1st Gen Camaro sells the dual front speaker sets from either Harrison or Pioneer that are an exact fit for the original mono. They range from 30 to 100 amps. Page 41 in the new 2003 catalog which you can download.
I ordered the 100's last week but they are on backorder.

Does anyone know where to get the oem front speaker?? Or will something else fit? I want to put that back the way it was and add a stereo in the trunk with remote so I don't have to cut my dash. Thanks for any info, Ray
The front plate speakers that I've heard, just don't give much before they start to distort. Usually they are rated for only about 25w-50w per and I was looking for a set that could handle more before they even start to distort.
I started out on this project with no budget available, and just components I had... and slowly I've upgraded all the speakers and amps to quality components, and don't want to leave that one (set) out as the dash and Kick Panel speaks are the main ones you'll be able to hear.
I'd like loud, but have to have clear consistant sound... just like the motor! Lol... Loud and clear!
