I put the trunk emblem on today, and due to added paint thickness, the nuts won't screw on. I guess I'll look for some acorn style at the swap meet this weekend. In the mean time, I used nut locks, thin round metal discs, the type they use to keep brake drums and discs from coming off the tire studs when the tire is removed.
Did anybody come up with the correct dimensions yet for this? My hood will need to be drilled pretty soon. It had two trunk emblems on it, so they welded up the holes and will re drill for the correct ones.

Catalina, I made up some templates a while back and could send you my copy.Would need you to send them back. Just send me a mailing address and I will get them right out.
Thanks to the generosity of Jim (8point), I now have templates for the installation of the 400 hood emblems as well as a template for the deck lid "P O N T I A C" and "400" emblems.
I have had them scanned and are in actual size PDF format. Does anyone know if you can post PDF's here?
Vikki, would you like to add them to your library?
Jim, your templates will ship out today or tomorrow. Thank you again.

Thank you Vikki for providing these templates. I have worried about getting this right for quite a while. (Un)fortunately, this worry has not paced my progress. It was even more bothersome when I found emblems leaning both directions on different cars. Those claiming the most expertise for "correct" had them backwards, lol.
For those on dial-up, this template is a 15 Meg file, so your patience will be rewarded.
When I put 400 emblems on my 326 hood I made cardboard replicas by first drilling the holes in the cardboard to get the right spacing, pushed the emblem into the cardboard, traced around it, then cut them out. Then I could place the carboard emblem where I wanted and mark the holes.
