hate to go back this weekend but we gotta get the shell for my uncle. i'm sure the ticks will be waiting.
ps. he didnt get any. is it cause i'm younger and taste better? or did he get lucky?
White spot? Amblyomma americanum aka Lone Star tick. That's not good. You need to take one of those ticks to your doctor if possible. I just saw that advice on AOL a couple days ago. Better read up:
Ticks can carry Lymes Disease. Keep a sample just in case.....
I was just reading up on that very topic Jim. Nasty if left untreated. I have had a fever for the last few days, and I received some insect bite on the back of my hand. I went to the Dr. today and it turns out not to be the case. The test results aren’t back yet, but it's probable a non specific infection.
The bite on my hand showed up Sunday night after I was out at my friend Pat's place. He's kinda out in the country. Here we get the bigger ticks. But that's not to say the small dear ticks, the type that carry Lymes Disease aren't around.
Sorry to hear that Tom. My Step-Father spent 4 days in the hospital this month for a non-specific infection to his arm. Intro Cypro and he's all better now.
My sister in Darnestown , Md. got lymes disease a few years ago...lost her thumbnails for awhile....took a long time to get over.....not fun ,esp. for a female to loose your nails...
Now now, Don't get all riled up thinking you are gonna die! I get bit by and find a dozen or more ticks every year here since moving to Tennessee.
99.9 percent are clean loveable ticks just wanting some of your blooooood.
If you can find and capture the tick, take it to your local ranger or forest worker and they'll run a simple test on the bug to see if you will die. We've done that six times in the past two years. Its free and you'll sleep better.
That is....unless....you have Bed Bugs!!!!!
'68 428 HO M3 Monster, 4-on-the-floor! Need I say more?
why is it the tics always go to the neither regions? that's the part i hate. anyways i killed my tics with a chair roller. tryed stomping them wouldnt work so i ran over them with the chair.
is there a lemon disease? maybe i could get a case of lemon\lime disease then?
I feel your pain Johnny. When I went turkey hunting this spring, I made sure to douse myself in Deep Woods Off. Came out of the woods with a half dozen ticks on me, one imbedded. I wouldn't worry too much about the tick with the white spots, as that's the same type that was imbedded in me and nothing has happened to me yet, going on almost two months.
One of my co-workers, who is heavy into all types of hunting, recommends tick repellent with Permethrin in it. It is only to be used on clothing - NOT SKIN - but he swears by it. I know it's what I'll try the next time I venture into the woods.

I would think twice about using permethrin. I've used permethrin (brand name of Pounce) in my line of work a great deal. I'm a farmer, and permethrin is an excellent insecticide used to protect growing crops from insect damage due to their feeding on the growing crop. My guess is the permethrin doesn't repel the ticks. It kills them before they can get to far.
To put this in perspective, I'm about as far as you can get from a tree-hugging, organic food promoting environmentalist. I am not someone who has a beef with all chemicals and thinks we are destroying our environment with them. I love chemicals. The effectiveness of them and the science and research that goes into their development truly amazes me. Without them I could not do what I do--at least not the way I want to. I take the proper care when handling them, and I take care when applying them--both for my personal safety and the safety of the environment.
That being said I would not slather my clothes with permethrin and head out to the field. Permethrin is a neurotoxin (at least it isn't an organophosphate). I'll take my chances with ticks. I think there is less risk. I've been bitten by lots ticks with no ill results so far (the little tiny ones will leave a welt about twice the size of a mosquito bite that lasts several days.) I realize Lyme disease is a risk, but there's lots of things in life that are risky. I'd recommend pouring on the deep woods Off, and dealing with the ticks that get through when you have to.
Since you don't want to bring them home anyway why not 'nuke' the car instead of yourself? If it does not have windows then throw a tarp over it. One bug bomb and the problem is solved. This is a much easier to solve problem than going out in a woods infested with ticks.
