In the past few months I've been to 4 differant cars shows. Yeah there were a few 66-69 GTOs scattered here and there, which were very cool by the way. Oh, and did I forget to mention all of the Camaros!!! That shouldn't suprise anybody. Anyway, I've spent countless hours driving to car shows eager to see Firebirds. And can you believe it, there were none to be found. I don't have to go to an all Pontiac/GMC show just to see one do I? Is this typical, are Firebirds that scarce? I realize that more camaros were made then Firebirds but good grief!! Could someone please tell me where all the Firebirds have gone? My 68 is in the early stages of a restoration. When its finished, it WILL be at shows representing ALL Firebirds. I can't wait...
I just went to a car show at the old Packard proving grounds in Michigan and there were several beautiful 69 Firebird convertibles as well as a host of GTOs. There is also a Pontiac show and swap meet coming up this month in Waterford, MI. I'll let you know how many Firebirds show up. We also have an informal club showing up every Thursday at a McDonalds that usually featues a couple of Firebirds.
Hello: 68drib I too live in the midwest and 9 out of 10 times i'm the only 1st gen f/b there. Once went to a indoor show in the middle of winter there were 4 out of a total of 50. The best part is when there are a half dozen or more camaros in your class and your the only poncho you can usually bet your going home with at least with one of those trophies.Keep your head up.If you want to see 572 f/b in one place Aug 22-24 Dayton Ohio
Thanks for the replys. Its nice to know that firebirds do exist. I have a collection of Firebird photos I've found from differant web sites, including this one. Every once in a while I gaze through them on my computer to satisfy my fix. Next week I'm going to another show. Not sure how big it will be. Hopefully this will be the one. And when I do find a Firebird, I will probably talk the owners ear off...
Where and when is that Waterford show and swap meet? I am only about 10 miles form Waterford. Although my Firebird is not drivable yet. I wouldn't mind going.
IT IS SAD THAT YOU DONT SEE MANY FIREBIRDS.I THINK MOST OF THE FIREBIRDS THAT WERE BUILT ARE ON SOMEBODY'S CAMARO NOW.I SELL ALOT OF PARTS AND I USUALLY GET MORE BIDS ON EBAY BY CAMARO OWNERS.ALSO,MORE PEOPLE LIKE CAMAROS,WE ARE THE MINORITY.CAMAROS USUALLY SELL FOR MORE MONEY THAN FIREBIRDS;THEREFORE MOST PEOPLE WILL RESTORE THE CAR WITH THE HIGHER RETAIL VALUE.ME PERSONALLY,I WOULD PAY MORE FOR A FIREBIRD CAUSE I LIKE THEM.
around st. louis, i hardly ever saw first gen birds. almost never at a show. there was a '69 i saw at a drag race, and when it turned around, it had a camaro front clip. needless to say, i was dissappointed.
here in raleigh, nc, there is a pontiac show in the fall. the last one i went to had 4 firebirds, and 3 of them were ohc sprints. mine was still apart again still
Hey 400plus, I probably won't make it to the Pontiac show in Dayton but should be there in Omaha. I will try and make it to the St. Louis show this weekend. Will see. If I'm there, I'll find you. Whats yours look like? Later...
Well, I just saw a 67 Drop top 326 on the way to work this morning... as I was driving my 67 Drop Top 455!
And our local Western Washington Firebird Club show (August 16th this year) we have anywhere from 20-25 First Gen Convertibles alone in the show, and quite a few coupes as well. Why there are so many up here in the Great North Wet, I'll never know... But I'm glad they're around!
A couple a weeks ago I was driving to Lincoln, Nebraska and I seen a gold 68 Firebird cruising down the interstate going the oppisite way. I thought I was going to lose control and skid off the highway. What a site! It looked so cool. My friends have a sweet *** 67 coupe, numbers matching 400, all original that they never drive. They just keep it locked down under a cover in their garage. Here in the midwest, when you see a Firebird its like seeing a bald eagle flying over head, such a rarety.
Hello again: I'll be there tommorrow. I'ts BLACK!!!!!!!!! Centerlines all around. Don't know if i'll be semi or modified in the popular vote ? 400PLUS plate. Hope to see you all there
Rudy,I was at the sloan museum car show in flint and seen the paper for that show in waterford but have since lost it could you please tell me where and when it is?With some sort of direction's on how to get there?
I went to the sloan car show in flint,mi 2 weekend's ago and seen 2-67' and 1-68' I feel the same way as some of you guy's do I pulled the motor in my bird sold it,with plans replace it with the correct engine but alas I'm still short a couple of thousand.

Hey, I went to a car show last week and was put in a 67 to 69 class against Superbees and camero olds and others and my minority took frist place so there is some appreciation for them
Good job plowman. I took all the emblems and lettering off my 69. I can't wait to go to a show and have people ask me,"what kind of car is that?" Of course 99 off 100 will probably ASSume it's a camaro anyway.
I took my 68 to the Woodward Dream Cruise last year and was disappointed to see only one other firebird a 69. I was glad to find no overheating problem after a couple hours in traffic that moved at a snails pace. The most fun however was the drive to and from the show.
Firebob, I used to live around Marion most of my life. I used to run around alittle in Buyrus. Coached high School Football in Cardington for years. Go Bucks
Plowman, I know it's a small world when someone else has heard of Bucyrus, Oh.. This place is like the middle of nowhere when it comes to the Pontiac hobby. Nice to here from you.
Thats right Plowman. They used to make Firebirds in OH. but that dosen't happen anymore either. I think the Lordstown plant is still there where the early Birds were made. I thought it would be fun to drive my Firebird up there and get some pictures of it at it's birthplace. Maybe someday I'll make the time.
Hey Firebird. Saw a sweet 68 red firebird being hauled up north on i-71 today. Columbus has the hotrod nationals at the fairgrounds this weekend. Hopefully he pulled some nice awards with it. I'm from Powell, just north of Dublin, Ohio. Also have 68 Firebird. 400, 4 speed, convertible. Keeping august 23rd open for Dayton. The bird should make it.
Hmmmm! the busy town of Powell. My youngest son just build a new home next to the zoo. For a small town it sure has alot of traffic. He is a sales person for MI Homes.
Yes, I have been by Lordstown, bbbbig place. I think it would be about a three hour drive from where you located firebird. Warren is a pretty good size town bigger than Marion. I sent you a private message firebird. GO BUCKS NATIONALS CHAMPS. People don't like my Ohio State flag I fly here.
Hey Birdword, I go to Columbus quite often. I go thru Powell if it's past business hours. I plan to be at the T/A Nats. Bird's the word there thats for sure!
i went to a carshow in a small town in ca. and there was a 68 400 converible for sale. it was the only bird there and there was about 25 to 30 camaros. in my opinion, the bird is far more scarce and i have been watching any birds that have been sold going for quit a good amount. i get at least 3 to 5 people asking to buy mine each week. but as you all know, its a love hate relationship with these things and i cant sell it for some godfsorsken reason. lol
Hey everyone, I went to a car show in St. Paul, Nebraska and saw one 69 conv. Firebird!! I was very cool. The first Firebird I've seen at a show in a long time. 400Plus, Sorry I didn't make it to the St. Louis show this weekend. How did your Black Bird do? If anyone has a picture of the Ohio plants where the Firebirds were made, I sure would like to see them. Send a pic at lilli@cccusa.net.
Had a great time in St Louis 5 full days of Pontiacs.People on narcotics think it's a camaro. Started out in semi mod then was changed to full mod.Oh well that's the way the cookie crumbles. I know! Going to the muscle car nats sponcered by car craft this weekend at cordova dragway in Ill. Race it on sat. Show it on sun. Bill
A car with a similar problem is the Cougar. It's the red headed step cousin to the Mustang. I had a 69 Cougar vert a long time ago (unfortunately a rotted out piece of junk) but I think they're pretty cool. You never see Cougars at shows but tons of Stangs. (Don't worry - I love my 67 bird)
That would be very cool having a picture of your bird in frt. of the lordstown plant, that's where mine was built maybe someday I'll do the same.I went to a car show this weekend in scottsville mich. which is a small town outside of ludington on the upper west shoreline no bird's one camaro only about a dozen car's though.
tnims68, Where was the show you went to? How much were they asking for the vert? There's a pretty big show coming to Pleasanton in Aug. Expensive tho. Good Guys are all about the money.
I'm going to a show this Sat. the 19th. I know there will be one bird there, Mine. It wont win anything because I am hosting the show. I will let you know if any others show up.
There was a car show here tonight in Albany, NY at Gumptles. 1500 cars. One nice looking 68 Firebird vert (not mine). No Cougars. A zillion Camero's and Chevelle's.
my brother's got a '68 cougar. it's not in real good shape, but he could probably take home a prize at a ford show in "other than mustang" category. he brought his '71 pantera (not in great shape) to the last ford show around here and brought home 3rd in "other than mustang" out of four cars that weren't 'stangs or cougars. he's also got a '68 fastback 'stang and a '65 with '82 supra suspension and brakes (the suprang, as seen on spkorb.org) he has too much money and not enough time. i'm the opposite.
i still like my firebird the best, but his cougar comes in a close second of all the cars in the driveway. the neighborhood kids only notice the firebird-"can we have the purple car?" i like not having a camaro. i like not having a mustang. if i had a pantera, i'd sell it, and buy a cvtbl firebird with all the trimmin's.
Has anyone seen the Taco Bell commercial? There's an orange Firebird that looks pretty good from what I can tell. Not sure if its a 67 or 68. And if anyone see's the new Matrix movie, there's a black 68. It looks nice but they end up trashing it.
