Ok, I purchased a throttle cable from Ames a few years back. This was when for some reason only the 2bbl cable was available. Now, they carry the 4bbl cable. I just ordered one and to me, they are the exact same cable. Either I originally thought I was getting a 2bbl and actually received a 4bbl, or vise versa. Nonetheless, what are the differences between them so I can determine what I have and what I need.
Also, has anyone noticed a drop in customer service at Ames lately? I have been odering several items and they are either out of stock, back ordered, delaying shipping etc. Getting old really quick. Anyone else having issues???
I can't imagine there would be a great deal of difference (if any) between the 2 and 4 barrel cables. But, if they ahave different part numbers, then somethings different about them. Possibly just the length?

most of the time its the adjustment in the cable that makes this an application specific cable. measure the difference from the mounting joint on the cable to the face where the plastic ends. i'm sure you'll find the difference. the cable is like a trans kickdown cable. it does have some adjustment in it but most don't know how to adjust it!

67 was a linkage rod that was on the driver side of the carb. the 68/9 went to a cable style. the length comes into play but only in combination with the setting. check both to make sure but i beleive you should be able to adjust the old "new" cable with the recently purchased cable and have the same length as a result! let me know what you find out.

also nash. i did forget to mention that the cable length could be different but i suspect it to be the same and the positioning of the retainer to be the adjustable factor. i dont know about the 68/9 cable specifics but if i get a chance to look at the cable this weekend ill let you knowif there is an adjustment and if so how to adjust it to make it work. there is more than likely 2 cables but both may work in either application.
and to answer question #1: YES. all cables went to the drivers side of the intake. someone may have modified theres to suit a different application but stcok came with the throttle control (be it cable or linkage rod) on the drivers side!

My 'bird is left hand drive...all my birds are left hand drive.
Right hand drive still use the same carb and intake, so the throttle cable would be on the same side, but routed differently. I'd guess than on a '67 conversion that it probably would have been converted to a throttle cable rather than trying to make a throttle rod work.

If I remember right the two barrel cable is longer, about an inch or so. Measure the one you have and post the length. I may still have a four barrel one and I will measure it. Barry
Although "defected" from the 1st gen republic (driving a 2nd gen 455 T/A), I do remember that the 4 bbl throttle cable from Ames didn't work at at all in my 69. It was too long, and I couldn't get the carb to open up the secondaries properly. Purchased a used 4bbl cable in good condition, and laying the OEM side by side with the Ames repro, the original was about 1/2" shorter. Might work with a 2bbl, but don't spend your money on a repo cable for a Qjet setup.
