I'm trying to find the the correct mounting location for hood tach on a 69 400 hood. I have seen the 67/68 template on hear but that would place the hole through the cross beams. It seams like it needs to be moved forward about 2 1/2 inches from there. Thanks for any help.
Seeing as '68 and '69 400 hoods are identical, I'd say the template is correct. The hole does go through one of the braces.
I used to be indecisive. Now I'm not sure. Thanks for the reply. If I move it forward 2 1/2 inches from the 67/68 template, the 3.75 hole fits perfectly between all the braces. It just makes me wonder if thats where it should go. Do you know if the tall tach and the short tach have the same mounting location? I'm using the short tach.
When i had a hood tach put on my new repro hood last winter i had my bodyguy put on so the hole fell between the braces, factory correct ? maybe not but it looks good and i didn't have to cut braces.
Tall and short mount in the same spot. ('67-tall, '68-'9 short) You can move it forward, but it technically won't be in the right spot. It's doubtful anybody will notice. But Joe will be ticked all week after reading this...

Thanks for the replies boys. I think I'm going to sleep on it. I'll let you know what I decide. I did like the pictures of the red 69. I guess I'm not the only one in Ontario Canada with a garnet red 69. Mine is a 400 4spd, not original..350 auto. The engine has had the Smokey Yanick mod... 455 crank in a 400 and bored 30 over..works great. Thanks again!
I'm located in rural Ottawa. I did mount the hood tach on today with the 67/ 68 template. I checked with a supplier up hear in Canada ( early-birds )and they said it was the same as 67/68 and that you had to drill through the brace. I did drill through the back brace but it worked out very well. The mounting holes also went through the brace but the studs were long enough and it was no problem. Looks good, now I just have to paint the hood and tach. I thought your paint looked a little brighter than mine but I just assumed it was a sunny day. Thanks for the help fella's!
