When I purchased my 68 it did not have a dash in it any more. So, I did not have the option of having the original recovered. I did get lucky (yea right)enough to buy a new OER dash from a member on another site. He decided to install a roll bar in his car and did not want to cut up a new dash. I found out quickly again how bad their (OER) parts are. With only four mounting points and a real thin metal backing plate the dash can not be mounted down real tight with out putting dimples in it.
Here is what I did to make the best of what I had.
I first started with marking a center point of the stud holes. I them measured out and centered three holes in between all of the mounting points. It was real fun drilling nine holes in my new dash panel.
I know there hard to see but here are all nine holes drilled in the dash. I then installed the dash and lightly installed all four nuts on the stock studs. Next I needed to mark all nine holes on the back of the dash. I used a drill and scratch awl depending on the location.
Here is a picture with all four studs and nine screws holding the dash down. It's now held in place very firmly. Should not warp in the heatand will not rattle. You still have to be very careful when tightening down the four studs. I plan on using lock nuts and loctite on the screws.
I drilled the first hole very carefully and then decided with eight more holes I wanted a safer option. There was a drill bit harmed in the install. I cut the drill bit down so that when I broke through the metal I could not go out the top.
I may need to trade that glass install for a dash install...

How much of the interior guts of the dash do you have removed to get at all those screws? (any picts?)
