Can anyone provide some pics of the below shown exhaust splitters when installed?
Most of the time I see the second gen chrome splitters installed on first gen Firebirds. In the rare case I find an image on the web of a car spotting the original ones they usually are installed too deep - at least that´s my impression...
I have the instruction sheet for installation (see below).
Problem is I´m running a customized exhaust system from R.A.R.E. so I´m eager to see these splitters installed on a car. My first and most important concern: How far do they have to poke out of the subframe???
Any pics - especially showing the installation from below - would be highly appreciated!
these seem to be the second gen chrom splitters, looking very different from the above shown
Or the 76-81 TA splitters, looking similar to the second gen ones...
And then again there are repros for 72 GTO splitters looking close to the others - but not like mine...
To complete this "splitter-story" here are the correct 72 GTO exhaust splitters... Fortunately looking different from mine again
And finally, to make this topic even more confusing: 64-65 GTO used these splitters, too - but they have been installed in a different - more transversal - way
as shown in this awesome car (I hope I didn´t breach the copyright...)
Thank you. Yes, it's my other Bird. I tried searching for that thread. I started it because I'm right where you are at, trying to decide on exhaust tail pipes and ends for my 1st gen. Brett had a nice pic and so did others. The search engine only goes back a few months now for some reason. It was probably 6-8 months ago. I'll keep looking....
Bjorn, calm down... Of course they look accurate. But I paid a small fortune for the first style splitters some years back so I hope it´s self-explanatory that I want to know how they should look installed the correct way... Didn´t want to mess things up.
Vikki, just read your post. That was what I was looking for - at least the info, but unfortunately only a pic that doesn´t show the splitters completely. But much better than none!

They come out just a few inches past the rear wheel and only about 2 inches max below the sheet metal and the angle of the bottom of the tips of the splitters follow the angle of the bottom of the sheet metal... not parallel to the ground.

Here's second gen on my car before tear down. Got real tight in there. I might go First gen this time around though. Take some pics when you get them on.
Wanting a Custom fit in an off the rack world.
I don't have time for a job, I just need the money.
Maybe if you used the original two holes where the hanger is mounted, -you could eye-measure up from the drawing.. and be pretty close to the drawing's fitment..
