Should I use the High torque or do you guys recommend a reman,???.. this is for my newly rebuilt 400 cu. motor.. I'm leaning towards the high torque,, are these good for the long haul, I don't want to be replacing this in a couple of years.. What ones have you on your engines????.. Thanks..
If originality is not an issue, I vote for the high-torque. Mine works great.

Oh, and another thing not considered - since it's lighter - it's a heck of a lot easier to hold in position while you are getting the bolts started...

If you are running Long-Branch exhaust. Don't waist your time with a stock starter. They will fit but dont plan on it being a easy job on and off.
Now you mention this! I found a correct date coded OEM starter for my 400 coupe over the winter. I was going to take the mini starter off and replace it with the OEM one. Would it be easier to install seeing as the engine and trans are out of the car? I have LBM's to put on too.
I almost responded to this post this morning because I plan on selling the new mini starter that came with my '68.

Craig, it's easier to fit the starter for the first time with engine out. You can see how much shim you'll need to get the right gap between the teeth. It's an easy fit with mini's and lbm's. I tried the stock starter and lbm's and couldnt imagine trying to pull or install while in the car. with the mini you should have no problem. Unless of course you're going concours.

What brand and how much? Need a mini for my performance engine build.

No idea. All I know is that it's about 7 years old, has less than 300 miles on it, and hasn't been used for 7 years. (Just like the rest of the car) I'd have to spend some time pulling everything out and apart. that may take me a few more months.
