Oil Recommendation

Short answer: Per the 1968 owner’s manual (non-detergent oils are specifically not recommended), the SAE viscosities are:

1968 Recommended Oil Viscosity
Temperature Viscosity
Above 32°F 20W or 10W-30
32°F down to 0°F 10W or 10W-30
Below 0°F 5W or 5W-20
High-output (H.O.) engines require SAE 30 in summer (above 32°F) and 5W-20 in winter (below 32°F). Also: 5W and 5W-20 aren’t recommended for sustained high-speed driving; SAE 30 and 20W-40 may be used above 90°F; 5W-30 below 32°F; 10W-40 between 0 and 90°F.
