Nervous Speedo Needle

Short answer: A jumpy needle is usually a binding speedo cable that “loads up” and releases. Pull the inner cable from its casing (disconnect one end), coat the cable and sleeve with graphite, and reinstall — a ~$1 fix worth trying before replacing the cable.
