It's funny how the 69 shifters are. (I have a bastard built 400 car that was originally a 400 3 speed manual. The previous owner butchered it badly when he installed a M-22 4 speed. I think that sticks suck, and I had a 69 350 turbo 350 car that acted as a doner. For $50, I had a tranny-man buddy build me a hot turbo 350 out of new/used parts of which he swiped from GM warrenty parts. And I used the 350's car's factory shifter.)
Anyway, my shifter, you have to press the button to take it out of park, and you must push the button to go from drive to neutral. You can go from neutral to reverse to park without pushing the button. My slap-stick option doesn't work because the nylon detents are worn considerabally.
Because I know the history on the 350 car--wich I bought in 1978--since 1974, I know that the clock showed 389k, if not 489k, because it could have been turned over before the 1974 owner pruchased it at 88k. My 400 car that I put together in 1987, has about 142k on it. I know that everyone likes to make questionable boasts about less than 100k cars. Even so, this shifter has 526k on it, possibly 626k on it, and the shifer has been through at least 6 engines and at least 2 trannys--these are race cars aren't they?--so I guess there I can't complain that the slap-stick option doesn't work.
