The switch you're searching for is mounted to the top of the steering column down near your feet. It's held on with two small scew/bolts. It has a pin that fits in a slot in the column that is supposed to slide back and forth when you put it in reverse. Of course this assumes that you don't have headers and no one has removed the reverse lock out linkage.
