I had the same problem, like a big dummby, I put the engine and tranny back in my car as one unit before putting in the original transmission tube back in, once the engine was all hooked up, I couldn't get the tube in and I sure didn't feel like unhooking everything again. I ended up buying a flexible stainless tube and dipstick assembly off of Ebay for 35 bucks and that solved my problem.
