Try this. Open the hood, look at the column where it comes through the firewall. You should see a flat lever pointing toward the engine. This is the part of the linkage that connects to the shifter lever on the trans. Pull the lever all the way up until it stops. Now try to turn the key. Mine still does it from time to time as I am missing the linkage between the steering column and the shift lever on the side of the trans.
