Hammered, They do go in behind the bumper some what , but arent as tight as the rubber fillers.The 400 car that my daughter has had semi-gloss black on them like the engine compartment had.Her car was a unmolested un restored car when I got it.The engine was missing,sure could use a good yt 400 block(early 67).It has a 69 engine now.
