OK, finally got the timing cover off, and I must admit, I'm confused. Seems the eccentric is bolted on tightly, the little tab snugly in its retaining hole, so I'm not sure exactly what the problem is.
Like I said in my previous post, the fuel pump inserts too easily. It did push itself out when it was removed, and does pump when operated by hand, yet when the engine turns over, nothing happens. I removed the fuel line from the carb and stuck it in a 2 liter bottle so I could watch for any flow.
Are there perhaps different size eccentrics? This one is about 2 1/8 inches in diameter and about 5/8 thick. That's about all I can think of, that it's not making correct contact.
