You have to unplug the harness. There's a really fun bolt in the middle you have to loosen first. You can then use a screw driver to get the one spade/ wire out from the inside of the bulk head connector. Don't think that black goop is bad Keep it in there - it's dielectic grease and prevents moisure from destroying all the connections. NAPA sells the spade you need which you can then connect to the new non-resistance wire that will go to the Batt terminal on the HEI. I used 12 gauge.
There used to be a COLOR wire diagram out on the web somewhere that was invaluable when I was doing all the electrical stuff. I printed a copy that is on the wall of my garage. I don't have the file or URL though. Someone here might remember where it is.
