Ever since the economy went sour, I've been noticing more and more thefts and crime in the local papers. Not the usual DUI's and cannabis stuff, but a lot more retail thefts, shoplifting, and break-in's.
What's disturbing in this new age of "hope and change" is that there seems to be no restraint anymore. I'm seeing a lot of retail thefts where someone just blatantly grabs merchandise and runs. Open cash register, in broad daylight, not even a weapon used, just grab the money and run. Also seeing things like people breaking into foreclosed homes, stealing water heaters, copper pipes, a/c units, faucets. Just recently there was a report of a van that pulled up to a Sam's Club, in broad daylight, and 3 guys started loading up shopping carts (they were caught). Another case where 2 guys were stealing road signs, another where 3 guys were trying to steal the giant letters off of a bankrupt Blockbuster Video.
People are getting desperate.
Terrible news though, and I feel for ya.
At least no one cracked your skull open for the $5.00 you have in your wallet, or for the McDonald's bag your carrying, like what happens in many areas of Chicago.
