I have a 455 with 6X heads that were on a Pontiac 350...unverified chamber size, as far as I can recall...it's been awhile since my engine build. Anyway, I guess the heads have been "mildly" worked over, whatever that would typically entail...valve job, etc. Is this head okay with a 455? I've had some pinging issues and had at least 3 people attempt to tune up this car. It starts okay, runs okay, just pings sometimes. That and a few people that have driven it have questioned whether it was actually a 455?! How embarrassing is that?!
So here's what the engine's got: 455 bored .030 over, "mild" cam (forget the specs at the moment), headers, edelbrock 750 carb, edelbrock performer rpm intake, k&n filter, "hot" plug wires, distributor recurve kit. Lower end has forged H-beam rods and forged pistons, new crank. How worried do I need to be about this pinging? Any pointers? I'm not much of a tuner but I know people who can help. I'm more concerned about having the proper heads installed for now. Am considering some aluminum heads if I ever get the cash.
