Well kinda pi$$ing in the wind here (LOL !) but, as mentioned above you will need to run at least 91 octane premium gas. if still pinging retard the timing 2 degrees at a time until it stops. You may have to limit mechanical advance travel if you cannot get it stopped. What is your current timing? Can you post Initial, mechanical, vacuum. Manifold or ported vacuum advance? Yes detonation is a problem and is very hard on engines if left so you need to get it stopped.
