The key to any job like this is to make sure you have all of the parts for the job before you start. It is really not all that difficult if you have some mechanical experiance and common tools.
I went from column automatic to floor mounted manual with no major glitches. I did it over the winter so I really have no idea of the time involved. When I started I didn't have the console or steering column so those came later.
