I disagree.
The Unforgettable Fire was U2 at their peak of creativity, with the Joshua Tree then being their descent, even though that was still a really good album. Everything after that was them on auto-pilot, recycling the sound that made them once unique (thanks, to Steve Lillywhite, Brian Eno and Danny Lanois).
Vertigo was the only song that I've heard in at least the last 20 years that's been the exception; a throw-back to when they meant something.
