I have the side-slap stick shifter in my '69 from a '70 GTO (updated the PG - sorry, ST two-speed shifter). When you push to the pass side and forward, the shifter moves up and catches on a gate . Then you let go for a second, the shifter moves back to the middle and out of the gate. You then push to the right and forward again. No button to get stuck, but be careful, neutral is next! And I don't know if all the shifters are like this, but everyone try it and report in! I'm pretty sure I remember doing this on a couple of later TA's, too.
