There apparently were some on convertibles.As mentioned i believe their use was for as stated above about carrying extra cargo due to the limited trunk space.The panel behind is for estetic purposes. The nice thing i like about the fold down seat in a convertible is if you want a killer sound system and fit a pile of speakers in there for when the roof is dropped!If you can get a good deal on it,i would grab it.If you end up deciding not to use it in your car, you should fetch a good $ for it on ebay.
