If the car has had a vinyl roof all these years, then be prepared to do a wee bit of work when you peel her off. Unless the car was garage-kept for 38 years, you will have alot of work to do to get that roof and sides prepped for smooth paint.

Trust me, just peeled that banana six months ago and I then chose to replace the vinyl instead of trying to rebuild the roof and sides. Its certainly do-able, just be prepared for some sheet work.
