I have been to the site you mentioned in the past................... I have also used the GM parts catalog to cross reference..................
I am stuck on an issue. The firstgen site for engine codes for 1968 shows the YJ engine- 350- (2bbl) both for automatic and manual cars as having 1111281 as the distributor. Moores book shows that 1111281 distributor is for a manual transmission whilst distributor 1111165 is for an automatic.
The firstgen site for engine codes for 1967 shows distributor 1111165 as being for both manual and automatic for a 326 engine.
Hollanders: page 79-402 shows 1111165 distributor as being for 67 firebird 8cyl-326-2bc-without A.I.R 1111165 distributor as being for 68 firebird 8 cyl- 350- 2bc-auto trans- with 3 hose vacuum harness.
1111281 distributor as being for 67 bird-8cyl-326-4bc-with A.I.R 1111281 distributor as being for 68 bird-8cyl-350-2bc-MANUAL TRANS 1111281 distributor as being for 68 bird-8cyl-350-2bc-auto trans- with 5 hose vacuum harness.
So if I am reading all of this correct- then it all comes down to the question of if my vehicle originally had a 5 hose vacuum harness or a 3 hose vacuum harness????????? This would decide which distributor is factory correct for my vehicle? The question I have now if all the above is correct- is what determined the use of a 5 hose or a 3 hose from the factory???? Emissions?
I am slowly going to nut this one out............................more input please peoples! Please.
