My name is Greg and I am the proud owner of a 68 Firebird. I've owned it for a few years now. I bought it as a finished car because over the years I've done the resto thing and it just never ends.
I bought my car with a bone stock 68 400 out of a big car. Nothing special as it was originally a 290HP motor with #15 heads and a stock cam. The car had a M-20 4 speed and a 3:08 open rear. Over the years I have swapped out the 3:08 rear for a 2nd Gen 8.5 rear that was rebuilt with an Eaton posi unit and a set of 3:73 gears.
After swapping from a 3:08 rear to a 3:73 rear I still wanted more power. So I scored a new motor for the car. I currently have a rebuilt 428 on my engine stand which is just about ready to drop in. The 428 was bored .030 over with a set of forged flat top pistons. The heads are mildly ported 6X-4's and the cam is a Comp XE284. The motor was built by Paul Spotts and the HP estimates are in the 450 range.
The only thing left to be done with the motor is to drop it in, hook everything up, and fire it up. I'm almost there but still can't decide whether to use my old Hooker headers or swap out to a set of Ram Air manifolds.
