Question for the numbers gurus! My 1968 bird 400 has a body tag build date of 12D67 ( 4WEEK OF DECEMBER 1967) Assembly date invoice is Jan 3rd 1968
The correct carburettor for my vehicle would normally be -automatic-Turbo H-M- Rochester 4bbl- #7028264 (1968) However my vehicle was built in December 1967- therefore being an early built 68 bird- quadrajets didn't have a number stamped on the float bowl. So a carburettor with the stamped number of #7028264 wouldn't be correct- unless of course it had a date code of December 67 stamped on it. Can a carburettor #.#7028264 have a date code of 67 stamped on it? I am under the impression that stamping of the float bowls only commenced in late 68? And that earlier quadrajets had the round id tag (circle)?? Would the carb I need (so as to be date code correct) need to be a 1967 quadrajet? a 1967 carter quadrajet? or can it in fact be the 1968 listed carburetor #7028264 ?
Bit confusing- my apologies- basically- what carburettor would of been on my bird- bearing in mind it was built in the 4 week of 1967? Remembering its a 1968 bird. What I mean exactly is that should it be a quadrajet with numbers stamped on the float bowl? or should it be a carter quadrajet with numbers on the round id tag? I understand that if it was a carter built quadrajet- then its number should be (4 numbers) - xxxxs? This number would be equivalent to the # 7028264 for the exactly same carburettor- (only difference is the number) same carburettor but just different number?
I am a bit puzzled on this one! Any help would be greatly appreciated.
