I'm sure the difference in performance is minimal at standard coil voltages, but I like the extra thickness of insulation for added insurance against hot surface contact, especially with nonmetallic core plug wires. Have you ever opened the hood and watched the engine at night? Weak insulation creates very nice arcs that translate to weak spark at the plugs.
