I know there are a million posts about over heating issues. I found this post off Pontiac Street Performance that I don’t think I’ve seen any info about here at FGF. This issues appears to be overheating issues with edelbrock intakes. My two factory intakes appear to be clear of this issue..
Basically this guy found that the crossover coolant passage in the intake, is machined way too small. The fix is to “gasket match” and open the intake coolant passage up, increasing flow. According to him, the Edelbrock passage opening is approx 13/16in. He was able to open it up to 1 1/8inches. That’s approx 5/16 (.3125 in) difference. His later posts state he noticed a big difference in temp and flow through the radiator
For comparison— Stock Edelbrock port side = 13/16in (.8125) Stock Pontiac port side= 1 5/32in (1.150)
That’s a difference of approx .3375 in (that’s between 5/16 & 3/8 of an inch)
I’m not sure if any other intake manufactures have smaller ports like the edelbrocks. Long story short, if you have overheating issues and running an Edelbrock intake- might want to double check these ports as well.
