I see the neutral safety & back up lamp switch at the bottom of the steering column, with the correct colored wires connected to it: pink and light green.

How can I check for voltage without putting the car on axle stands, engine running and gear shift in reverse position?

Should the reverse lamps light up with ignition in ON position, shift in reverse, but engine not running?
