In the early '80's when my '68 was a daily driver, I had vinyl "firebird" labeled black ones. Looked pretty cheesy. I remember seeing the small chrome ones that Jim mentioned too. Those were so samll they weren't worth the effort to install.
I think anything you put on there will look out of place, but if you want to protect the paint... go for it.
I tend to only drive when the roads are dry, so not needed. Would likely help with rock chips tho.
