Places like Griot's Garage sell a non-permanent clear plastic film that you can place over areas like lower rear fenders to protect them from flung debris. I use it on the lower inner door openings of all my vehicles to prevent shoe scrapes. Lot cleaner than mud flaps and cannot be seen except up really close.
