Reviving an old post here, hopefully someone here has some experience with this still. I attempted this conversion on my friend's '68 bird today by following the instructions on the board here, and was only partly successful.
What worked:
fuel gauge interior lights turn signals parking brake voltage (shaking badly, will discuss more on that below)
What isn't working yet:
temp gauge
Temp gauge stays at 0. doesn't move at all. His car has a temp sender on the intake manifold with 2 wires going to it. (not sure what those two wires go to either) We have another temp sender purchased new but only has 1 wire tab. I didn't try installing this as I'm not sure what the two wires go to.
Oil pressure gauge
Oil pressure gauge shoots right to 80 and stays there when the key is turned on. This happened with both the factory sender (unit that is threaded into the oil filter mount just above the oil filter- has 1 wire connection) I also removed that and replaced with a new 0-90 ohm oil pressure sender. no change.
Any suggestions as to how I can diagnose or fix these? The gauges themselves were tested and confirmed to work by redline gauge works, so I'm going to believe they work. I'm willing to test them if there's an easy way to do so, otherwise I'm assuming they are good.
The wiring in this car is original/ old. it's possible something isn't working or has corroded/ failed in the last 50 years. The car has 84k miles and is the original engine, but it's still 50 years old with multiple owners over the years.
RE: voltage, the battery and alt are new (less than 1 year old), but I think the voltage is weak on this car. I tested the battery with the engine off and it was 12.64, with the engine on at idle it went down to 12.5, and with the engine revved up to 2k rpm, it slowly climbed up to 13.5, and eventually 14.25 and fluctuated around this number. On another weekend I'll try cleaning the grounds he has, maybe even adding a second ground from the engine to the chassis. Regulator appears to be original. Car has been updated with HEI by a previous owner. There was one brief moment where the voltage gauge worked smoothly, but it returned to shaking and stayed there since.
Any help on the above would be very much appreciated.
