Congratulations, sounds like you came up with a good fix! Maybe it's an optical illusion, but it looks like the heater hose in your picture is pulled kind of tight? I was thinking if you disconnected it from the engine and pushed a few inches toward the heater core it may actually lay in the indention on your inner fender and possibly get rid of the kink? It's hard to tell from the angle of the picture though.
