As far as the gaskets and seals I don't ever remember any on the defroster y duct top or bottom. The blend doors used a rubber type gasket that was glued on, and it would be a good idea to seal them because on our first gens there is no water valve so there is always hot coolant circulating through the heater core, and you don't want any air leaks pushing that heat into the cabin on a hot summer's day. Also don't forget the foam rubber seal that slips over the heater core tubes to seal it against the firewall. Don't remove your freshly painted fender. If it's just misalignment of the blower housing cover take the appropriate half round file and make it happen. If for some reason you had to remove the housing the only seemingly impossible bolt to reach is #38 shown in this diagram http://www.teufert.net/partbook/67-76/8-i.pdf (Scroll down to find) you should be able to find a round depression in the fender well that lines up with it and drill the appropriately sized hole for your socket and plug Afterwords with a black plastic plug.
