Time to update an old post. My turn has come in the machine shop and they are tearing it down now. So far, everything looks good. Cam is not out yet but the plan is to get the original re-ground. Now the big question, What grind to use? Most sources say use the 068 cam, but some say that's for an auto, I have a manual and I think that would be a 067. My car was built in DEC of 1968 and is a 1969. I have read that they used a 744 cam on the early ones and switched to the 068 halfway through the year. I'll verify what is in there tomorrow. OEM dist. OEM carb. I'm trying to re-build a 350 HO, nothing more but it has to be streetable. So is the 744 hotter than the 068? There is duration, overlap and about 100 other specs on cams that all make a difference. My original thought if I simple stick with OEM, I can't go wrong. But after MUCH research and comments from you all, the cam is the heart. I'm sticking with OEM including the heads. Getting all new stainless valves and after talking to the builder, he wants to CC the heads so we know exactly what compression we have. Book says 10.5 to 1, but we all know how that goes. Any thought on the two grinds I have mentioned? Since it's not a racer, which grind gives the most low end torque?
